„I got involved without knowing exactly what I was getting myself into. I slowly realized what the project was all about and have not regretted being a part of it.“
I came to the project by chance through an acquaintance who has also been beekeeping for many years. He had been involved in the transitional home for a long time through the 1. FC Union Berlin foundation, and, finally, gave me an idea to set up, run this project and plan the workshops. Since I live only 200 meters away and have ties to the neighbourhood, my answer was clear to me relatively quickly. I got involved without knowing exactly what I was getting myself into. I slowly realized what the project was all about and have not regretted being a part of it.
I think that I am lucky enough to state that I have been leading a privileged life, which I do not take for granted. I know that there are a lot of people who have to carry very different weights on their shoulders, and I want to give them a perspective and promote self-responsibility. I have been supported many times in my life and have received a lot of encouragement. Now I feel that I am in a position where I can give something back to society.
Because bees are currently in the dormitory, I am the only person living outside the dormitory who can visit during the lockdown. These visits allow me to bring a bit of normality to the facilities, and the residents always appreciate that. I would encourage everyone to get involved in various projects and volunteer as it really does put a smile on the faces of those you support.
