In her spare time Kristina builds schools and promotes international cooperation

With her work for Engineers Without Borders, Kristina combines professional experience with her heart's projects. This allows her to support many people and experience beautiful moments of togetherness in addition to gratitude.

For me, the satisfaction I get from my job as an architect and the one I get from volunteering are entirely different. Eventually, work is work, and I do it to earn for a living. So, unfortunately, being involved solely in volunteering projects does not work. That is why "Engineers without Borders" fulfils me differently as it is a project for my heart. I am delighted with my profession and chose it freely. The best thing is that I can use it in conjunction with a voluntary position to benefit other people.

„For me, it is crucial to always have a big goal in mind that you don't lose sight of - but to proceed in small steps. Just start and see what happens and be open“

The year with the COVID-19 situation has brought something positive in our case. We couldn't fly to Zimbabwe, of course, but we saw how independently the local team works. The project is going very well, despite the tense financial situation in Zimbabwe, which was, of course, further fuelled by the pandemic. Through a lot of creativity and different suggestions from the local people, we have found new ways to overcome this challenge. For me, it is crucial to always have a big goal in mind that you do not lose sight of - but to

proceed in small steps. Just start and see what happens and be open. If you have a lot of motivation and stamina, it works out exquisitely.
